APT – Asian Poker Tour

The Asian Poker Tour is not as lucrative as some of the more mainstream poker tours, but it plays an important role in the poker world. Its main purpose is to promote the game of poker through the Asian and Pacific region.
It aims to educate the public in the region about the game of poker, as well as generating enthusiasm throughout the region for the game. It is by far the biggest tour in Asia, and it hosts the most lucrative poker tournaments on the continent.

The inaugural event of the Asian Poker Tour was held in Singapore. The winner, famous poker trash-talker Tony G., took home more than $450,000. He kindly gave away half of his winnings to various charities throughout Australia and Asia.

At first, the events on the Asian Poker Tour were held sporadically, and the reputation of the tour suffered as a result. The tour was first owned by the Singapore based company, Capital Events. At the beginning of 2008, the tour was purchased from Capital Events by the Hong Kong based gaming company, AsianLogic. This was a good thing for the Asian Poker Tour, as Asian Logic brought a reputation for gaming excellence and a sense of stability to the tour.

Over the next 3 years, AsianLogic decided to slowly bring along the tour. It was decided to only host 2 events every year, but to make these two events very lucrative and prestigious. This has helped increase the reputation of the tour, and the events are now highly anticipated not only by players in the Asia and Pacific region, but by poker players all over the world. The events are held in the Philippines and Macau.

The first event of the new Asian Poker Tour regime was held from May 27 to June 1 in 2008. It was held in Manila, Philippines. This winner, David Saab from Australia, took home $280,000. The second event was held in Macau and won by American player Yevgeniy Timoshenko, who took home a large payday of half a million dollars.

In 2009, the Asian Poker Tour event in the Philippines was won by a Filipino, Neil Arce. He took home $185,000 for his trouble. The Macau event in 2009 was won by Adrien Allain of France. The Frenchman took home 3,035,000 in Hong Kong dollars, which is roughly equivalent to $400,000.

The 2010 event in the Phillipines saw a Filipino winner, Michael Cua. This generated tremendous excitement, as it made two years in a row that a local player took home the title. Cua won $172,000. The latest event of the Asian Poker Tour, held in Macau, was a watershed moment for the tour. It was the first time a person from China was victorious. Zhang Dan Peng won $215,000, launching a billion dreams of riches in the process.
